Book Sales & Donations

All books sold in the Book Store are donated. 100% of the money raised goes to the library. Some of the organizations that donate books on an ongoing basis are:

  • Freedom Plaza Library
  • Kings Point Library
  • Beth-El Mission
  • Hillsborough County Library System
  • Sun Towers Retirement Community
  • The Rotary Club of SCC
  • Chula Vista Landings HOA
  • Add your name or organization here

Donated books may be left at the library in the Friends Book Sale Store. Books can also be dropped in the Book Drop which is just outside the store.

Donations to the Friends may be tax deductable. Donation verification forms are vailable on request. To learn more about donating books, or to have books picked-up, call 634-1396 or E-MAIL the Friends.

The Book Sale Room operates on the Honor System. Purchasers are asked to deposit the book purchase price in a safe at the end of book shelf by room entrance.

Many Friends volunteers spend several hours a week working in the sale room. They help keep the shelves “stocked and neat” and make customers feel welcome.

The Friends always need more volunteers. Contact Mimi Rose by clicking here..EMAIL if you would like more information about volunteer opportunities.

The Friends want to thank ALL of our volunteers for their time, energy and ideas. The Friends especially want to thank Gladys and Rich Bromberger, and Linda and John Bowker for their ideas, planning and many hours of hard work. They keep Book Sales operating smoothly and and continue to find ways to improve the operation.

Please donate books!

Oh yes. The Friends thank everyone who buys our books!

  • KIDSART CARDS All of the paintings submitted for the Friends and John Crawford Art Studio sponsored Kids Art Contest were great, but some were so exceptional that everyone agreed to use the Student Paintings to create high quality KIDSART CARDS.

The Greater Sun City Center Community Foundation funded the effort and packages of eight note cards, with envelopes, are for sale at the library for $5.00. Buying the cards is a great way to help the Friends, and to promote student art in SouthShore. Take a look at some of the note cards by ckicking here.

The next "Really Big" Book Sale will be announced here.

Above is a picture from our last "Really Big Book Sale". Our Book Sales are scheduled whenever we have a surplus inventory of books. This usually occurs about once per quarter....but not always. In any case, the specific date will be announced on this web page three weeks before the sale date. We also have a local newspaper release before each sale.

The sale included the popular "Buck A Bag" format, as well as a "Special Price Table for Special Books". Every book in the Book Store was half price.

Planning For The Book Sale - Shown above are (left to right top) Jim Duffy, Rich Bromberger and John Bowker. Also shown are (left to right bottom) Joann Duffy, Linda Bowker and Cladys Brombergers. These folks are a major source of energy and hard work at the book store.

For our last book sale, the Friends also want to thank Gary and Mollie Winsted, Patty Brandt, Denise Comeau, Judy Bullock, Neil and Anne Anderson, Ron Engles, Jane Carey, Janet Doherty and Roz Cruthis.

Thanks to all of our volunteers!! Nothing great happens without great volunteers.

Below is the "original Book Sale Room". It has been expanded and we need to get a new picture....hint! The Book Sale Room is open whenever the library is open. Stop by and purchase a book soon.

FRIENDS BOOK BAG:  Joan Shalleck designed a canvas Book Bag for the Friends. It is on sale at the library checkout desk. The cost is $10.00.

Buying a book bag is a great way to carry your books "to and from" the library; and a great way to support the Friends.

Booksale Help! Lots of Library Friends are smart, but about once every three months, we need two vollunteers with "muscles" for about two hours.

Before each "Really Big Sale", we need to transport about 150 boxes of books from EZ Storage in Wimauma to the library. Most of us can lift a few boxes at a time, but 150 gets a bit much.

It only takes about two hours on a Friday afternoon, but it does require a "strong" back. A pickup truck would also help, but we have a few SUVs we can use.

Do you know of a special person who can help? Call Jim Duffy at 634-1396. The "pay" is a free book per hour!
