Kids Art Cards

Each year, including 2013, cards are created by children from several local Elementary Schools. The art is  judged and donated to the Friends.

Cards are for sale at the library....10 cards for $5.00. That is $0.50 for a card and an envelope! You will be proud of what our youngest library users have created! And...thanks to the teachers and the kids!!

This project is a great examples of how the Friends work together with HillsboroughCounty schools and our library, to make SouthShore a better place to live. We described it in narrative essays https://best-writing-service.com/personal-narrative-essay Be sure to visit the library soon, and buy some CARDS.

The December 2013 Kid's Art Project:

Above: Painted by Emily Cuevas, 5th Grade, Reddick Elementary School, Mrs. Susan Turpyn, Art Teacher.

Above: Painted by Belinda Solis, 3rd Grade, Reddick Elementary School, Mrs. Susan Turpyn, Art Teacher.

2013 was the 5th Annual Student Holiday Art Contest, Sponsored by the Friends of the SouthShore Regional Library. M&M Pinting printed the cards at a deep discount....thanks to a great local company.

Since 2011, Tom and Mimi Rose have managed the event.

Each card is imprinted with the student's name, teacher and elementary school. The Art Cards are exactly as the children painted then...not enhanced by computers and adults!

Below is a sample of cards from the December 2011 contest:

This is a card made by Daniela Mendez, a 3rd Grade student at Wimauma Elementary School. Her Art Teacher is Ms. Jamie Perkins.

This is a card made by Jennifer Lopez, a 3rd Grade student at Reddick Elementary School. Her Art Teacher is Mrs. Susan Turpyn.

2013 Festival of Trees:

The Festival of Trees is a community year end celebration for everyone.

This year, the Friends will partner with Ruskin Elementary School. Trees and wreaths will be displayed in the library from November 23rd, Saturday, untill December 14th, Saturday.

The trees will be sold via a silent auction and the proceeds will go to Ruskin Elementary School, for student enrichment trips, and the Friends of the Library.

As you may know, the parents and staff at Ruskin Elementart ary working especially hard this year to improve the scholastic rating of the school. They deserve our help!

Saturday, December 14th from 5-8 pm, will be the last chance to bid on the trees in the "silent action" format.

Of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the event. Food can be purchased. Everything for sale or auctioned at the event was donated free of charge by individuals and businesses who want to help the school and library.  Thanks to all of these people and businesses!

The Friends want to especially thank Frances Hereford, a Friends Board member, who has organized the event. The Friends also want to thank Lorri Robinson, Supervising Librarian, and her staff, for their exceptional effort.

The Festival of Trees was also supported by many local individuals and businesses, including the SouthShore Chamber of Commerce.

Below are pictures from a prior year event.
